Pirelli is an Italian multinational tyre manufacturer based in the city of Milan, Italy, founded in 1872. Pirelli has been sponsoring sporting competitions since 1907 and specialises in the production of tyres for Cars, Motorcycles and Bicycles. They have a total of 19 manufacturing sites across 13 countries with almost 15,000 distributors and retailers around the globe.
In 1974, Pirelli invented the wide radial tyre after a request from the Lancia Rally Racing team because they wanted a tyre that was strong enough to withstand the power of the new Lancia Stratos at the time. Their wide radial tyre became popular with drivers of powerful cars and companies such as Porsche, which started using them with their famous Porsche 911 Turbo sports car range.
The Pirelli Motorcycle Tyre range has built a well-known offering to cater to riders from all motorcycle disciplines. The Diablo are the Road and Track motorcycle tyres, the Angel are the street and commuting front and Rear Motorcycle Tyre range, while the Scorpion is for everything off-road, with a few that cross over as a road/trail, which are suitable for anything.
Pirelli has the exclusive supply rights for the World Superbike Championship with all of the controlled race tyres. They now also cater to the British Superbike Championship and MotoGP series.
