One of the most popular tyre manufacturers of the world and one that is a major competative player across all forms of motorsport is the Michelin Tyre Manufacturing Company. Michelin has been the worldslargest tyre manufacturer since 2021, responsible for a number of inventions such as the removable tyre and the radial tyre. They construct tyres for everything from cars, motorcyles, aircraft, bicycles and even space shuttles.

Originating in 1889 at a small country town in France. Two brothers who ran a farm equipment repair workshop had issues while changing a customers bicycle tyre that needed to be repaired. From there they began to experiment with pneumatic tyres and in 1891 they took out their first patent for the removable pneumatic tyre.

In 1972 Michelin joined the competative motorcycle world, introducing the radial tyre to MotoGP in 1984, and multi-compound tyres in 1994. They achieved 360 victories in 36 years, and from 1993 to 2006 the world championship was won by a rider on Michelin tyres. In 2009 the FIM introduced a control tyre for MotoGP that Michelin declined from entering, which concluded their participation in the series at the end of 2008.
